Kielce, the city where the University of Technology is located, lies in the very heart of Poland in central Europe, half the way between Warsaw and Cracow. The nearby Świętokrzyskie Mountains are one of the oldest in Europe. A hilly landscape of the city is dominated by large woods, nature and landscape reserves and attractive water reservoirs. The Świętokrzyskie Region boasts clean air and is called the lungs of Poland; 66% of its area is under protection because of special natural values. A great asset of Kielce is numerous picturesque recreational areas and 5 natural reserves spreading within city limits.

About the University. The University is a relatively young institution; it was established only 46 years ago. Yet, the first Polish technical higher education centre operated here in Kielce in the first half of the 19th century. The University wants to continue those academic traditions. For over forty years, the Kielce University of Technology, the only technical university in the region, has provided specialists in engineering for both local and the country’s industries.
The University offers high quality education, which has been confirmed annually by ratings at top positions in the NEWSWEEK conducted survey, compiled on the basis of the assessment delivered by employers. (In 2008 the University came eighth in all state-run and private higher education institutions in Poland). Many of the University accomplished alumni became owners or executives of production and services companies recognizable in the country and abroad. The successful employment histories of its graduates contribute to the success of the University.
Education:
The University has four faculties: Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automatics and Computer Science, Mechatronics and Machine Design, Management and Computer Modelling. Those comprise 15 fields of study, including two new ones:
- Power Engineering
- Geodesy and Cartography

Engineering courses are compliant with FEANI standards set by the European Federation of National Engineering Associations. From the academic year 2010/11 the University enlarges its educational offer with subjects provided in English, which are parts of the programme provided in Polish. International students can choose subjects from courses offered by four of our fields of study: Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Production Management and Engineering, Electrical Engineering. At present, The University educates over 9 000 undergraduate and graduate students. In addition to teaching, the University conducts research geared towards collaboration with various sectors of the national economy, and also facilitates the development of the research staff.
The University is authorised to confer a doctor’s degree in 6 disciplines, namely automatics and robotics, civil engineering, environmental engineering, electrical engineering, mechanics, machine building and operation. Moreover, it has a right to award a degree of doctor habilitated in 3 disciplines, i.e. machine building and operation, civil engineering and electrical engineering.
The University has well-equipped specialists laboratories and Poland’s only Centre for Laser Technologies of Metals. In many of those laboratories, modern equipment is used to conduct research in civil engineering, mechanics, electrical engineering, automatics and laser technologies.
International cooperation:
The University is an internationally recognised academic institution. The University collaborates with many foreign institutions not only in Europe, but also in the USA and China. Long-term agreements with foreign partners focus on joint research and teaching, but they also cover exchange programmes for students, doctoral students and researchers (CEEPUS, LLP-Erasmus). The implementation of ECTS system enables students to choose individualized study plans or flexible study courses and stimulates student mobility, both domestic and international. Every international student is invited to complete at least one full semester in Production Management and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Modern Mechatronics. International programmes which provide funding for student grants are of particular importance.
University campus:
22-hectare compact campus of the University is close to the city centre. It is easily accessible from rail and coach services. The campus includes four teaching halls with laboratories, the Rector’s Office building and the Main Library building. The latter, fully computerised, is one of the most modern in Poland.
The following are located nearby: Laser Technologies of Metals teaching and laboratory building, six student houses, the Pod Krechą student club, sports facilities including a football pitch, a basketball court and a tennis court.
The size of the University and its compact campus create favourable conditions for quality study and leisure time.
